Who operates Blue Note Mobile Disco?

BLUE NOTE MOBILE DISCO is operated by Terry Styles, a professional Disc Jockey with over thirty years' experience. He began his career as a D.J. in 1978 in the Tunbridge Wells area, working at youth clubs, local public houses, and private parties such as Birthdays and Wedding Receptions. After relocating to East Kent, the name BLUE NOTE was adopted, and in 1985 Terry gave up the 'day job' to concentrate on a full-time career as a D.J. Since then, Terry has provided entertainment at all types of functions and events, at many different venues, including Hotels, Castles, Village Halls, Schools and Private Houses. His career as a D.J. has also included Nightclubs, Cross-Channel Ferries, Theme Parks, and experience as a Radio Presenter.

How did you first start out?

I left school not really knowing what I wanted to do for a living. I started going to disco's, and after watching, and listening, to other D.J.s, I began to think 'I'd like to have a go at that'. So I began to build up my record collection, and saving up some money. Eventually, I had enough to buy a basic set of equipment, and soon got my first gigs doing youth clubs and local Pubs. Before long, I started to meet other D.J.s, who were very helpful passing on bookings. It took a few years to really get established in the business, but once I'd built up a reputation the work kept coming in, and in 1985 I gave up the 'day job' to become a full time D.J. By the early 1990's I was doing nearly 300 gigs a year, including regular nights at nightclubs, pubs, and hotels, as well as weddings, birthdays, and all other types of event. Nowadays, I'm happy to do a couple of gigs a week, although at the busiest times of the year, such as the summer months, and the Christmas party season, I may be working up to seven nights a week.

What type of entertainment do Blue Note Mobile Disco cover?

BLUE NOTE DISCO can supply entertainment for any occasion, at any venue, large or small, and can play music to suit all ages. We use only top-quality sound equipment, and the latest lighting effects, and our extensive music library contains all types of popular music, from the 1950's right up to the latest hits, enabling us to cater for all tastes. Our years of experience playing to all kinds of audiences ensures that we can guarantee you a great night's entertainment for you and your guests, whatever the occasion.

What do you enjoy most about DJing?

There's nothing more satisfying than seeing a crowd of people in front of you really enjoying themselves, and when someone comes up to you at the end of the party to thank you for a fantastic night, it makes it all seem worthwhile. The best thing about running a mobile disco is that you get to play at lots of different venues, and are always meeting new people. I cover the whole of Kent, which is quite a large area, so I still often work at a venue I haven't been to before.

Is there anything you dislike about DJing?

Loading equipment back into the van at 2.00a.m. in the pouring rain!

What age groups do you cover?

I can play music for any age group. I've done 80th Birthday parties, and one for a two-year old. Although I specialize more in Weddings and Corporate events these days, I still sometimes do school discos and children's birthday parties.

Where have you played?

I've performed at every type of venue, including small and very large halls, hotels, restaurants, clubs, pubs, castles, private houses and gardens. I've worked in the middle of a field, and on the back of a lorry! I've also done Theme Parks and Cross-Channel ferries, and had some experience as a radio presenter.

What sort of music do you play?

I play anything from the 1950's right up to the latest hits. It's important to keep up to date with the new music, but when I'm doing a family party, such as a Wedding reception, very often it's the older music that will get people on the dancefloor. I always discuss the music with clients in advance of the event, so I fully understand what they want me to play. Some people like to provide me with a playlist, others leave it up to me, and I always take requests from guests on the night.

Contracts or written confirmation are given for all bookings, we are fully covered for Public Liability Insurance, and all our equipment is P.A.T. Tested for your safety and assurance. In the unlikely event of us being unable to fulfil a booking, due to breakdowns, illness, etc, we work closely with a network of other D.J.s and agencies throughout Kent and the South-East, and will supply a replacement Disco of a similar standard at no extra cost to you. We have never failed to fulfil an engagement in more than thirty years of operating mobile disco's, and have built our reputation on reliability, punctuality, professionalism, and the desire to give our clients 100% satisfaction.
